# SONATURUM Organic Additives

Seven reference-born living pixel organisms created for the Organic Additives case.

## Package structure

- `masters/` — generated structural reference maps for editions 001–004.
- `poster-masters/` — generated structural reference maps for editions 005–007.
- Animated WebP and MP4 H.264 exports are generated on demand in the browser and are not stored in the repository.

No untouched user upload is displayed by the case. The seven generated reference maps are loaded invisibly, sampled on a coarse grid, and discarded as visible imagery. The browser renders only a newly constructed field of discrete square pixels.

## Artwork system

## Living renderer

The visible artwork is not the reference with an overlay. A dedicated renderer extracts only structural density and contrast, maps them into the SONATURUM indigo/yellow/coral/bone language, and rebuilds every work as thousands of independent pixel agents.

Each work has a different emotional protocol:

- `OA.001 / ORBIT` trusts a slow orbit and defends its center from abrupt movement.
- `OA.002 / BREATH` opens under held pressure and contracts after rupture.
- `OA.003 / RELAY` passes gesture through four carriers until the message mutates.
- `OA.004 / STRATA` keeps five material tempos coherent without synchronizing them.
- `OA.005 / CONTACT` accepts a deliberate gaze and withdraws from aggression.
- `OA.006 / MEMORY` stores delayed gesture imprints and lets them pull later frames.
- `OA.007 / SYMBIOSIS` grows a shared body around patient presence and protects it from shock.

## Portable media

Living canvases sample the reference paintings at a 7-pixel step and render at up to 2× device resolution. Devices that report a constrained processor-and-memory profile use a lighter 8-pixel / 1.75× fallback instead of applying a blanket mobile downgrade.

`GENERATE ANIMATED WEBP` creates a fresh temporary motion genome and renders an isolated 5.12-second loop: 64 frames at 80 milliseconds per frame, WebP quality 0.94, and a maximum edge of 1200 pixels. The second half eases the organism back toward its initial state through closed phase motion; the renderer verifies both frame uniqueness and exact `0 → 2π` positional closure before downloading a real Animated WebP container. The first frame is not duplicated at the end, and the temporary export state never replaces or pauses the living artwork on the page.

`VIDEO RECORDING` captures ten seconds of the artwork's current real-time state as MP4 H.264 with a maximum edge of 1440 pixels and a target bitrate of 12 Mbps. Pointer movement, pressure-like held contact, speed, and gesture memory shape the recorded pixels. The cursor, Protocol Error labels, signals, brackets, controls, and recording countdown remain DOM interface layers and are excluded from the clean recording canvas. The active control becomes a cancel action with a countdown; a completed recording downloads automatically, while a cancelled recording is discarded.

MP4 recording uses the browser's native H.264 encoder. If the browser does not expose MP4 H.264 through MediaRecorder, the interface reports that the format is unavailable instead of downloading a mislabeled WebM file.

The `LIVING IMAGE CONVERTER` accepts locally selected PNG and JPEG sources up to 5 MB and 4200 pixels on the long side. The browser first resolves the image's intrinsic dimensions and EXIF orientation without resize constraints, then immediately releases the full bitmap after proportionally reducing it to a maximum 1200-pixel working copy. That decoded geometry remains unchanged through analysis, GIF/WebP rendering, and encoding: the converter never crops or projects a source into a fixed portrait frame. The converter analyzes composition, edge activity, color tension, quiet zones, and independent salient regions, then produces a unique 48-frame seamless GIF or Animated WebP without uploading the source. GIF uses a denser source-sampling profile to retain more contours and smaller details within its 720-pixel output limit. `PIXEL FIELD` preserves the original cut-square reconstruction and its continuous organic drift. `CHROMATIC HALFTONE` uses a separate frame-addressed system: sparse dot flashes, hard horizontal registration faults, one-to-three-frame region teleports, abrupt local reconstruction, RGB separation, and temporary color-scheme replacement. It contains no breathing, waves, orbiting, or interpolated drift. Optional text is limited to 40 characters and placed in a contrast-protected panel derived from the source palette. Weak motion or stylization triggers one internal enhancement pass instead of exposing a renderer-quality error to the user. Successful generations retain the source and enforce a seven-second recovery period before regeneration.
